Community People Support

Volunteer with us and help us to support people with disabilities.

Severn Trent Community Fund is supporting our work with people living with disabilities or life-affecting health conditions. We have been awarded a grant which we will use to recruit, support, train and develop community volunteers from the North Staffordshire area to help to meet the growing needs for help from the community.

Almost a third of people living in poverty have a family member who has a disability. Living with disability has a very high financial and emotional cost. The cost-of-living crisis is hitting people with disabilities harder than any other sector of the community and demand for help to get through these hard times is very high.

You can help us to support people with disabilities.

The new funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund, which awards grant money to improve the three elements of community wellbeing – people, places and environment -means that the charity will be able to recruit more local people to support people with disabilities in their community.

Mandy Rollins CEO of Disability Solutions West Midlands says: “We’re delighted that the Severn Trent Community Fund has recognised our work this way. We’re thankful to the Severn Trent Customer Panel for selecting us for funding so that we will be able to recruit more volunteers to help us in the vital work we do to support people with disabilities and life-affecting health conditions. This will mean that we will be able to support more people who come to us for help and advice in these difficult times.”

About Severn Trent Community Fund

From 2020, Severn Trent is giving away £10million over five years through is Community Fund to support local projects, charities and community groups in the Severn Trent region – helping to make a real and tangible difference to the wellbeing in our communities. The Community Fund is overseen by an independent panel, made up of Severn Trent customers, who review applications and make the final decision on where the money will go.

The Severn Trent Community Fund looks to support projects that aim to improve community wellbeing, focussing on three elements:

  • People: projects that help people to lead a healthier life and gain new skills
  • Place: projects that help to create better places to live in and use
  • Environment: projects that will help look after our natural environment, give people greater access to that environment or help look after water.
