Cancer is the toughest thing that many of us face, and the impact of a diagnosis of cancer on your finances might not be one of the first things you think about. But having cancer can be expensive. Your income may go down and your spending may go up. You may have to pay for a special diet, child care, higher heating cost or travel to a hospital.
The Staffordshire Macmillan Welfare Service offers free, impartial, confidential welfare benefits advice to people living with cancer, their carers and families to ease the additional pressure a diagnosis can bring.
The Service offers:
- Advice on what benefits you and your family could claim, whether or not you are able to work
- Advice about how to claim, and help to do this if needed.
- Advice and assistance to apply for one-off Macmillan Grants ( for example, for clothing, bedding, heating bill and transport, as well as practical household items).
- Advice and assistance on appeals/ reconsideration’s, against decisions on your benefit entitlement.
